That Auntie Saved My Marriage

For years, my life was calm and familiar while I stayed home to care for my family. In 2013, I had a strong urge to do more. I didn’t want to leave my family, but I wanted to support them. I hoped to help my husband with expenses and share the load he carried by himself. With optimism and persistence, I chose to go back to school.

I expected tiring nights and the challenge of juggling schoolwork with housework. But I never thought going back to school would shake the foundation of my marriage.

Almost immediately, things changed between my husband and me. Our calm talks turned into arguments, and every conversation ended in conflict. It wasn’t just fighting-he became very insecure.

The man I loved started to see me not as his devoted wife, but as a stranger he couldn’t trust.

At first, it was just small things, but soon it turned into a nightmare. If I missed his call, he thought I was with someone else. If I went to the corner store to get something quick while he was at work, he accused me of meeting another man. He started tracking me through location sharing on Google Maps. I pretended to be okay with that because I thought it would fix our marriage, but nothing changed. At night, while I slept, he checked my phone, searching for proof of something that wasn’t real.

I started to fear going to school. He never called to check on me. Instead, he would video call and demand that I move the phone around so he could scan my surroundings.

“Who is with you? Whose voice is that?” he would ask. He made me show every corner of the room with the camera, looking for something suspicious.

After months of living that way, I felt overwhelmed. I cried and begged him to trust even a little: “I am not doing anything wrong.” But my tears didn’t matter to him. I became depressed and tired, feeling stuck in my own life.

Then he suggested something desperate. “Maybe if we have another baby, these feelings will go away.”

Feeling lost but wanting to save our marriage, I agreed. I went to the midwife to remove the IUD, and I became pregnant the same month. But instead of bringing us closer as expected, the pregnancy made things worse. One hot Sunday during my first semester, I wasn’t feeling well. I kept on throwing up all morning. I was at work, and my kids were very little; I needed to eat. So I forced myself to the kitchen to prepare something for the boys. My husband came home; he looked happy that day. He walked into the kitchen, and here I was, busy preparing a meal. He walked toward me and wrapped his warm hands around my belly. “How’s the baby doing?” he asked. But the heat from his hands plus the heat wave on that Sunday didn’t sit well with my pregnancy hormones. I almost rushed back to the bathroom to throw up again. moved his hands off me. “I’m not feeling well today. I’ve been throwing up all morning.” I said. His paranoia grew, and he said the worst thing of all-that the baby I was carrying wasn’t his. Why would I not allow him to touch my belly? I was lost, confused and very angry at him. I hated everything about him.

When our baby was born, a bit of promise returned to our home. Everyone was happy and smiling. A week after we brought the baby home, I looked at my husband, looking for a sign of change. “How are you feeling?” I asked. “I feel like this baby is bringing light back into our house. I’m happy,” he replied, “but for me to be really happy, I want a DNA test. I’m not 100% sure this is my baby.”

His words hurt deeply. After everything I had gone through, all my loyalty and tears, this was the breaking point. I looked at him and promised myself, I have never cheated on you. I have never even thought about it. But I am finished.

I agreed to the DNA test. I knew the truth and wanted it in writing. But I made it clear that once the results proved he was the father, I would file for divorce right away. I thought he would change his mind about the DNA test after hearing that, but he looked determined to do it. And that made me angry and disappointed in both of us, and I really didn’t want to waste my time with him ever again. That night while I was lying on the couch, I was ready to move on with my life and our kids without him.

Unable to carry the burden alone, I called a family meeting over video, bringing together his family and mine from back home. I told everyone everything. I explained that I agreed to the test, but the marriage was over.

That was when an auntie, calling from far away, stepped into our storm.

She did what no one else had done in two years. She brought peace. First, she led all of us into a prayer for half an hour, then she asked both our family sides not to interrupt as we spoke. Then allow me to speak first. For the first time, I explained everything without being interrupted. My speech shivered as I talked about the tracking, accusations, and constant questioning that started when I went back to school. Then she let my husband speak. His answers were unclear. He couldn’t explain his accusations, only saying he had a strong “feeling.” She listened to us for five hours. When we finally stopped talking, she spoke with calm but serious authority.

“There are two women behind all this conflict,” she said.

I was shocked. Two women? She explained that two women from his past, women he had hurt or left, were still holding onto anger. They both lived far away, but the other had a connection nearby. “There is a curse, a spiritual weight being forced onto your marriage,” she told us. “The person connected to her here knows exactly what is happening.”

Confusion and fear rushed over the call. We lived so far from others. Who could be close enough to do this?

The auntie asked my husband if he had any past relationships that ended badly. Slowly, he started to remember. He talked about a woman back home who said she was pregnant just as he was about to travel, but he turned her away. Then he remembered another woman he had rejected several times, until one hard day led to a single meeting. After that, he yelled at her and told her never to come near him again. She was very hurt.

Two years later, that woman’s daughter grew up and married my husband’s younger brother. So, my husband’s sister-in-law was the daughter of the woman he had rejected after a one-night stand. The auntie looked through the screen as my husband spoke. “Pay attention to those two ladies,” she warned. “That is where this curse is coming from.”

She urged me not to walk away yet. “Wait for the DNA results,” she pleaded. “Stay patient, and let us pray.” I agreed to stay but didn’t move back to our bedroom because, regardless of all that we heard, I was still mad at him.

She started sending us daily Bible verses. Every evening, she called us on video, led us in prayer, and lit up our home with light. While doing all that, I was busy searching for an apartment, because I was already done with my husband and I wanted to take my kids very far from him.

The DNA results came back positive, and that made me even angrier because I felt like he didn’t deserve to be called dad by my son at all.

Then something unexpected started to happen. It was like a deep black fog lifting from a valley-my husband’s mind began to clear. One day, he looked at me, truly confused, his eyes clear for the first time in years. “I don’t understand,” he said, shaken. “I used to feel like every move you made meant you were cheating on me. But now it’s just gone. I don’t see it anymore. What was happening to me?”

The darkness left our house, but it didn’t just disappear. The trouble left our home, but it didn’t vanish. It went back to where it started. Conflict broke out between my brother-in-law and his wife. It started samm as a drinking issue, then turned into violence. Suddenly, their marriage fell apart and ended in a bitter, quick divorce. My brother-in-law ended up in prison, and after all the chaos, his ex-wife finally broke down and told the truth. The woman my husband had rejected years ago had told her how to ruin my husband’s life. When my husband bought clothes and kitenge fabrics as wedding gifts for them, the mother used those gifts to perform witchcraft against him. They targeted his mind, causing jealousy, paranoia, and confusion to break up our home. The plan was to push him away from his kids and me so that they could deal with him nicely. But unfortunately, things didn’t go as planned, so the curse went back to them.

Now that we have come through that hard time, I look at my family and know the truth. That auntie was truly a blessing in our lives.

The auntie spoke up for me when I couldn’t. She encouraged me to keep going when I was about to give up. And she saw what was happening to my husband and helped us get through it with prayer and honesty. She didn’t just clear my name-she saved my marriage, my family, and our future.
